Timo Spinde

Timo Spinde is a visiting researcher in CIRES from October 2024 to January 2025 hosted by CIRES Chief Investigator, A/Prof Gianluca Demartini. His research project will explore How Annotations and Exposure Enhance Detecting Media Bias. Timo recently completed his PhD in the Institute of Computer Science, University of Göttingen, Germany, supervised by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Bela Gipp. His visit is co-funded by the University of Göttingen.

After finishing a double bachelor’s degree in computer science and media and communications and a masters in data science, Timo followed up on his research interest in data science and journalism by pursuing a Ph.D. in computer science, defended with summa cum laude. Timo’s research focuses on automatically detecting media bias, and he founded and coordinate the research network www.media-bias-research.org. He has a strong research interest in network analysis, machine learning, visualization, and language processing.
