A huge congratulations to CIRES Chief Investigator Associate Professor Rocky Chen from the UQ School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science on being awarded an Australian Research Council (ARC) Future Fellowship for his project, – ℎ.

Yesterday, the ARC announced its largest-ever Future Fellowships round, investing more than $344 million in over 290 research projects, including work addressing the opportunities and challenges presented by artificial intelligence.

Rocky’s project will address unfairness inherent in the personalisation algorithms that underpin online services and recommender systems, particularly for marginalised user groups. The research will advance new approaches to fair, transparent and accurate personalised predictions via knowledge-grounded reasoning and bias-aware optimisation. It aims to address an important digital equity challenge and strengthen Australia’s leadership in developing trustworthy and socially responsible artificial intelligence solutions.

Congratulations Rocky!
