About the Theme
This research theme aims to address challenges related to:
Quantifying data value
How to quantify the value of data, monetise solutions, and measure return on investment?
Increasing value creation and capture
What are the appropriate organizational structures and support mechanisms to maximise data driven value creation and capture?
Current research indicates that organisations expect a wide range of benefits from their data and analytic initiatives, including increased revenue growth, efficiency and productivity, and strategic planning yet, these expectations are often met with challenges, both technical and organisational. Through empirical studies, including case study and survey research, combined with design research, this theme will develop new approaches for valuing data assets, new knowledge of critical success factors in data driven value creation, and guidance on developing appropriate organizational mechanisms to enhance value from data, and how data driven insights are embedded into business process improvement. Outcomes will allow practitioners and researchers to develop skills in identifying appropriate business models to monetize data, embedding analytics results in organizational operations, and facilitating effective data-driven transformation in organisations.
This research theme is led by Dr Ida Asadi Someh from The University of Queensland. It aims to help organisations overcome socio-technical challenges present in effective and pervasive use of data. Research leaders and partners in our Centre are working towards exploring and solving organisational challenges, such as organisational design (e.g., how to structure analytics teams), integration of data into processes and products (e.g., how to wrap products with analytics features and experiences), effective use of data (e.g., through building transparent user interactions) and conceptualising pathways for creating, capturing and measuring data value. From the work conducted so far, researchers involved in Theme 5 have identified the need for an Information Resilience Capability Framework to guide organisations on how to measure and mature their information resilience capability and related digital transformation. The work towards development of the capability framework, expected to commence in 2023, will transcend the individual projects involved and will work with a variety of organisations including but not limited to our current partners for developing a fit-for-purpose and practical framework.
